Think you absolutely did the right thing. It looks very attractive and appropriate to the setting. I think both your apartment & your guests will fare quite well with less than antique furniture. Let the accessories be antique. I am sure it will be quite lovely.

Franca Bollo

There is a first for everything!?! Franca's waiting for her first billion. Or a first anything with Jon Hamm.

sometimes you must shake it up do the unexpected-still a very nice looking piece...well what we can see of it!

martina

But it is well made, doesn't have that stale smell of antique dressers that is hard to remove. It could be worse, you might have bought furniture at Ikea!

Marilyn

Sometimes newer just is right.
It looks like it is lovely.

Debra

I love it!

Claudia

And it looks antiqueish.

Merisi in Vienna

Looks like a well-made piece of furniture, why not give it a chance to shine?
Good Sense talking to Brocante Bug: a good bargain is a good bargain is a good bargain! ;-) xxx

Made me laugh out loud, Martina:
The doors of an antique cupboard in my bedroom every now and then come ajar, and I smell it even in my sleep. I have to get up and close them, too strong a smell. ;-)

The brocante bug must have been sick or on vacation the day you bought it! :)

Love it love it love it

Maybe you purchased it because it didn't smell of mildew, you don't need two hands to pull on the drawer handles, creeping their warped sides out inch by inch and the dust from insects wont end up on your cashmere sweaters? I like it. A home is actually much more interesting with a mix of old and new contrasting each other.

La Contessa

It is gorgeous and has YOUR LOOK!Thats why you bought it!

Diogenes

I like it - it is something I would buy for myself.

Speaking of modern, Corey, I am hoping to score an Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair at an upcoming auction; this one's upholstered in black:

And Franca, your comment is too funny!

jeanne stone

Well it is cute... and it will be an antique eventually.

Peggy Braswell

ones of these days it will be considered an antique. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com

Try this recipe .......

A bottle of Vodka (a cheap one)
A really big bag of cotton balls

Dip a cotton ball in the Vodka
clean about a square inch of the
inside of your cupboard.
Discard cotton ball, repeat the
process until you have done the
entire inside surface of the cupboard.
Dry with doors open several hours.
(Even better if you can do the
drying in the sun)
Your cupboard seems to be quite
pungent, so you may need to
repeat this at least once.
It is a bit of a long process,
worth it though.
I've done it to several pieces
and it worked nicely.

Franca Bollo

What a horrible waste of vodka! Maybe if I could suck on the cotton ball before discarding ...

Franca Bollo

When Franca dreams, Franca goes big. It was hard to chose between Hamm and Clive Owen.

I like it, its fresh looking! I have several old pieces in my home and it seems to have a heavy feeling. I recently purchased a beautiful French dining table made in the 1800's. I bought 6 NEW seagrass chairs, very modern style. It looks wonderful. I like mixing old and new pieces. It makes the old stand out on there own. I'am waiting patiently to see the finished product... love your style!
