Oh, Provence who knew you could show my hometown Willows in the Sacramento Valley
how to hit 113 degrees!!
My God for once I had to say, “It was Hot!”
Thank goodness for air conditioned cars, ice-cream, plantain trees, good friends and the desire to seize the day.

113...that's a record right? That basil in the picture is perfection. I can never get it to grow well; I don't know what the trick is. Wish someone would clue me in, lol.
I hope that with temperatures like that, the humidity is staying relatively low! As much as I love being outdoors, I'm afraid I would seek the cool or a thick-walled stone house with closed shutters and doors. Are the evenings and nights cooling off much? Sending cooler thoughts and wishes, Leslie
We read about the heat wave that hit southern France. It really is too hot to be outdoors except if you are addicted to Brocantes. Stay cool and hydrated.
Basil's a tender herb with respect to cool weather. I don't know how much you need to water it in summer, since it rarely rains where you are. Here in the northeast US, however, it grows well with decent rain and occasional weeding, combined with a soupçon of benign neglect (like many garden crops!).
P.S. After snipping some branches, stick them in a jar of water to keep them fresh for a few days (changing water each day), as you would flowers. This applies for store-bought basil as well.
