Your words shared are always very moving and powerful.
You speak from your heart and soul.
Prayers and much love always.
You are loved and never alone.
Love Jeanne

I had not heard of the Avett Brothers until I read this poem/these song lyrics. It seems they're expressing the confusion and sadness of both your personal life and the country's life right now.

I feel helpless and useless here on the east coast, but I'm sure it pales in comparison to how you feel sitting by Marty and aching to help. This life, this life, sometimes utterly grand, and other times, crushingly sad. I am so sorry for this crushingly sad time. I continue to pray. You are in my thoughts every single day.

Corey- sending love, prayers and grace to you and your family. I am glad you were able to go and be there. Much love- Joan

Sharing fond memories with your brother while you sit with him may give you both a comfortable focus now, and may provide you with soothing solace later. When I sat with my older sister a few years ago as she was fighting her own battle with cancer, I reminded her of all the kind lessons she taught me. We recited our childhood prayers together at night. She was the one who taught me the alphabet and how to tie my shoes while our parents were going through a painful divorce. She had protected me while our parents worked long and late hours. We laughed at our good times together and forgave one another for a couple of grudges that were held too long. The time passed and so has she, but I am grateful that we had the time to touch one another, in body, mind and heart before she left. This time will fly by for you as it also painfully drags its feet.

Sadness is a difficult emotion. I find, staying the course and the passage of time provides some relief. Acceptance is also part of the sadness equation. It's okay to be sad... another reality of life.

I enjoyed a documentary about the Avett Brothers called, May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers
It can be found and streamed on Amazon Prime for 4.99
