“Once there was a tree, and she loved a little boy.”
“And the boy loved the tree… very much.”
“Well an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest.”
The tree in the public garden is no longer.
I asked Gabriel why?
”It died. But the stump is here.”
Gabriel played beside the tree. I sat in disbelief… something so beautiful and old, watching children for years, is gone.
Quotes from, The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein.
Oh I love that book! Wonderful use of its words with the photos of Gabriel. Has there ever been a more photogenic little boy?!!

Sad to see such a big old tree gone.

As we can see, the remnant of that ancient tree will continue giving pleasure, adventure, and inspiration for years to come. Thank you for sharing through the eyes of a child.

Oh this is so wonderful. You must be having so much fun with Gabriel! I too am in love with toddlers and huge ancient nourishing trees.

I once quilted an appliqued square based on a page from this book as a fundraiser for a small town library in Maine. It’s a favorite. ❤️
