In the late 90’s my husband and I were on a motorcycle trip and stopped for lunch at an outdoor restaurant. We met some other people that were also on motorcycles and started chatting. I was a smoker at the time and a woman who was a nurse at a renown hospital started talking to me about the long term health effects. Not in a preachy way at all and with real compassion. She gently planted that seed and I quit later that year. I have wished so many times that I could thank her.

Ooh, that's a good one.
I find that people often pooh-pooh or reject things we say, right in the moment, but they will think about it after they've walked away and sometimes realize that we weren't wrong. So it's well worth planting a seed. -Kate
