Summer Holiday

A few days remain in our summer holiday.
Simplicity, rest. Swimming.
The intense heat.
Children laughing —
some tears, some burned meals,
late mornings,
fresh fruit —
figs from the tree.

A gift, every time.

We’ve stepped away,
but never too far
from the realities unfolding beyond this peace.

There’s beauty here:
in meals shared,
in slow afternoons,
in generosity and small joys.
And yet —
my hands still hold the weight of what’s happening in the world.

I try to find a place for it —
amidst all this light.
I try to reconcile the contrast.

All I can really do
is hold it.
And offer what I can
to heal it.

    Chère Corey,

Yes, all we can do is offer what we can ; but offer it just the same, sincerely and with hope.

Whether being a ” tomato warrior ” as my friend Cindy (of Harmony Farms in northern Italy) calls herself. She shares her extra tomatoes with the needy in Dolce Aqua a nearby village ; doing what she can.

Or, distributing flags at the manifestation for cessez-le-feu (as we recently did with family from Sweden ; nothing says hope like 7, 9 and 17 year-olds being aware).

We hold this weight because it is real ; we offer what we can until the weight of hate and greed melts away under the hope of love and peace.
