This evening, Chelsea and her family came for dinner.
We gathered for one last song around the Christmas tree,
because tomorrow I thought I would take it down.

Gabriel has admired the tree since the day I put it up. He would lie beside it
letting the lights spill over him.

Before dinner, stood around the Christmas tree hands held, and listened to- O Christmas Tree.
When I announced that the Christmas tree would come down tomorrow his face folded and tears came quickly. He said it was the most beautiful tree, that he wanted me to leave it.

We knelt beside him, told him we understood.
How hard it is to say goodbye.
But understanding didn’t quiet the sadness..
Yann stayed with him,
while I carried dinner to the table.
In the end, we decided to let the tree stay.
A little longer. No need to rush
a goodbye. We agreed we would take a few ornaments down each day.
