Out in the Cold Turning Blue

Out in the cold

It is cold outside.

Snowing in Provence.

I love the sound snow brings… silence.

French Husband went hiking in the snow, he is going to camp out for a few days.

Hello?

Of course I didn't go, my birthday is coming up and I would rather be warm inside, than freezing my buttocks off with that crazy man.

Twelve farm animals and a friend

While driving home I saw the neighbor's farm animals hanging outside. Gee, are all French living things crazy? There they were just standing and staring off into space… Almost like they were posing for a Nativity scene. U-who? Where are you French Husband? You could be St. Joseph or a shepard in this scene.

I'll skip the Mary role.

Anyway there are twelve farm animals (farm fowl included) in the above scene, and one peculiar friend. Do you see number thirteen?

Are you a snow person like French Husband? Or are you more like me… a hot chocolate, stay inside by the fire kinda person?

  1. Do I see a peacock?
I’ll stay inside by the fire with you.
    xox, d

  2. herhimnbryn

I’m a go out in the snow and play then come home and sit by the fire and drink hot chocolate kind of girl!

  3. Definitely a stay inside person, but we’re having unseasonably warm weather in Ohio. It’s been in the 60s the past two days. My husband loves to go winter hiking and camping. I picture him with icicles frozen to his beard and mustache.

  4. The fireside for me, after a brisk short walk in the snow.

  5. jend’isรจre

I spy a peacock, definately not strutting his stuff. Cold is exhilerating when moving, though hot cocoa is for cocooming.

  6. Gorgeous peacock !! no, I’ll stay inside with you and sew my patchwork….

  7. I love a good snow because the whole world stops and is quiet. My friend says that it is God’s way of giving us a break. But when it is snowing I love to stay inside and knit and bake!

  8. Karen@PasGrand-Chose

So jealous! We just have the bitter Siberian cold without the prettiness of snow. I’m joining you in front of the fire with hot chocolate – be right over!

  9. We have had unseasonably warm weather this winter. 50 degrees during the day has been the norm lately. One year ago today we got 18 inches of snow in 24 hours. I love the snow when I can stay home, light a fire, make a pot of tea, cuddle up with a warm blanket and a good book and watch it come down.

  10. the beautiful blue peacock! Oh I love snow!!! And I love to ski, but then it’s off to the roaring fire with a cup of hot tea or a hot toddy or gluhwein.. stay warm!! xo marlis (definitely NOT camping in the snow – ever!!)

  11. I Love snow! I love playing in it, sledding, skating, building snowmen, and walking in it. But I ALSO love the inside cozy stuff too! I would never go camping in it! That’s crazy talk!
Snowfall on Long island where I grew up was so beautiful! Everything stopped and it was so quiet. The lighting in the sky was different. You could hear each foot go crunch in the snow. I miss it sooo much! But I don’t miss shoveling! ๐Ÿ™‚ Living in the Bay area I am never going to see snow unless I go to Tahoe or something! ๐Ÿ™

  12. It’s been crazy warm, 60’s in February? I have enjoyed the sunshine for now.
I love a fresh winter’s snow falling lightly in our woods. The light sparkles of the stones in the creek. The quiet brings a peace.. a closeness with nature. I wish I could put it in a jar.
Then when my toes and nose get cold, I go inside for the warm fire and kailua.
No hiking and camping in the freezing cold for me! I’ll stay with you and sip hot chocolate. But I might have to drag you outside to make a snow angel.

  13. becky up a hill

Beautiful picture Corey. I see the peacock too. I love this picture!! I’m praying for rain and snow in my neck of the woods. You know the farmers here need it badly!

  14. Although I am originally from northern climes, I like to sit inside… with a Blueberry Tea!

  15. everton terrace

I’m with you all the way!

  16. Outside of course..
    SNOWBALLS!

  17. Wow! A peacock! Gorgeous! I used to cross country ski, just loved it. It’s a quiet sport, you’re able to listen to the swish of your skiis and chick-a-dees and cardinals. Chili and hot cocoa afterward. When I was a girl, I loved to sled on an aluminum saucer, and ice skate on the river, and make snow forts using a shoe box for the block mould. Haven’t thought about any of that for a long time…

  18. That is incredibly cute and..a peacock in Provence?!
Two snow days for me two weeks ago-couldn’t get to work. It was so nice to be snug in a nice warm home and look out at the snow.

  19. Brother Mathew

    Look at those two jackasses.

  20. A fire, warm drink ,good book and a camera to take pics of the beauty outside. ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. I like to stay inside with hot chocolate, a fire in the fireplace and a good book. I love to look outside at the snow. We had snow here in Seattle two weeks ago and it was quite challenging. It was followed by an ice storm, high winds and power outages. I had no power for two days. Not fun!

  22. Both – a walk in the snow, then home to a cozy fire and hot chocolate.

  23. It’s a peacock! The snow looks so pretty, but like you, I prefer to view it from inside a warm home.

  24. It’s preparing u ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m building my winter attire and it’s hard when I desire a summer couture. What we do for the people we LOVE.

  25. Snow is highly overrated. I want to move back to Berkeley!

  26. No camping out in the snow, but maybe a hike and stomping in the snow for awhile, then inside for the hot chocolate and fire. I think a good book would be waiting for me inside too.

  27. Cheryl ~ Casual Cottage Chic

I think I spy a brightly colored peacock in the picture ๐Ÿ™‚ Burrrrrrr!! Hope his “toes” don’t freeze off or he/she gets ice on her/his wings…lol!!
Snow is to look at from afar, not to drive in, play in, eat, and especially not to go camping. Camp indoors ~ make a tent with chairs and blankets, a comfy quilt on the floor, lots of pillows, a good book (or your ipad) and some hot chia tea.

  28. Inside of course! I don’t do cold! Thank goodness our winter has not been so cold and bad here this year and we all ready have daffodils blooming. Now that is not to say that there wont be cold weather but for now I am enjoying it. Bring on the hot chocolate!

  29. Franca Bollo

    Patience, jackass, patience …
    Ring a bell?

  30. Jill Flory

I am NOT a snow person. I like hot sunshine:) I’d much rather be inside by a warm fire if it has to be cold outside:)

  31. Sharon Penney-Morrison

Give me cold and snow any day, 365 days a year.
I love to watch it, walk in it, stand in it, breath it, and then sit by the fire with a hot drink……mmmmm pure heaven.

  32. Brenda L. from TN.

Brrrrrrr! I’m staying IN with a book and a cup of coffee…
Snow is pretty when falling and everything is so quiet…but not to drive in!
    I see the 12 plus the peacock….
Oh! yeah! HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON SATURDAY COREY! and MANY more!

  33. Brenda L. from TN.

Also forgot to mention…it’s 65 here today…last year we had 2 feet of snow on ground….

  34. Chris Wittmann

Living in northern New England where temps can dip to 25 below or worse, I should be used to the cold after 32 years but I still prefer to stay in side and cuddle up with a good book and a cat or two by the woodstove. Fortunately we haven’t seen a winter that severe here in about 12 years, but below zero is not out of the ordinary. It’s been a mild winter this year I must say, only down into the single numbers a few times, but I’m with you Corey. I go outside to feed the birds and my one stray barn cat, and hurry back inside!

  35. I love the snow up to a point ๐Ÿ™‚ Winters are too long in our area. My husband love to ice fish and camp in the winter too…crazy!

  36. It was -30 degrees Celsius at 7:00 am in Warsaw this morning. In that kind of weather I am the “don’t even get up from your bed” kind of person. Alas, in reality, I do have to get up and go about my day.

  37. Merisi in Vienna

Such a cute scene, all those animals in the snow!
My outdoor thermometer is not working – probably frozen. ๐Ÿ˜‰
They forecast about -15ยฐC for the night. Very cold, albeit not a snowflake in sight, cloudless blue skies and starry nights. I hope everybody finds shelter.

  38. I see 14 animals, lol…and I’m a hot chocolate inside kinda gal. We are having a mild winter with almost no snow and that is fine by me. I think FH is crazy!

  39. C, When is your birthday? Mine is today! 29 again:)

  40. No snow for me. DH knows that I could not live in a snowy climate. I love our Arizona winters. Right now it’s 74 degrees in the day and 45 at night. There are some rain clouds today but no rain yet. We get rain so seldom that when we turn on the windshield wipers the rubber part falls apart. We still wear sweaters and jackets but by noon those layers have to come off. We wear boots but it sure gets warm with them. I used to ski in the Denver area and it was a blast but when I got back home the warm air and sun felt divine.

  41. Alan from Chicago

I enjoy the snow especially in the country. I like to ski and snowshoe. Like you say it becomes very quiet sometimes it is so quiet it feels as if I am deaf. A year ago we had a 20 inch (50.8 cm) snowstorm. This year no snow with temperatures near 50F.(10C.)

  42. Okay, I see the peacock …however call me crazy but is there an armadillo in the far left hand corner ?
    I love the winter !

  43. Stay Inside
    Drink Hot Chocolate
    Magazines, Books, French Blogs!
    Enjoy The Beauty
    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

  44. Sheep and peacock…??? Great image, completely spellbound, these animals are.
Uh, I moved to the hot desert to get away from snow.
Now I miss all my friends and family – snow doesn’t seem that bad.

  45. Love, love, love walking in the snow…even better as it is falling. Then back inside for hot tea, a blazing fire, and scones. My favorite time of time of year.

  46. I have never seen a peacock in the snow! How beautiful! The scene looks just like one from a Christmas book. I am usually snuggled in with sewing or knitting and a good movie. Of course, some chocolate, too!

  47. Snowing in Boulder, Colorado, too. We are in for a record breaking upslope and they are predicting 18 inches by the time it ends on Saturday afternoon. Love walking in it but hate shoveling it! Your beautiful picture looks just like a Christmas card.

  48. What’s a peacock doing in the snow?? I love camping and I love the snow…but not at the same time! That sounds like a very bad idea. I’ll stay inside with the fire and hot chocolate and appreciate the snow from the warm side of the window.

  49. julieannevins@googlemail.com

I love peacocks, just adore them. When we first stayed at Auberge L’Aiguebrun chef had a Peon called Leon. I missed him when we went back. I recently told Grace that peacocks do not like ice cream. She proved me wrong by letting a local peacock eat her ice cream all up. Further evidence that peacocks like the cold ?! Jx

  50. what a great photo!!!! SOOO Cute how they are lined up ready for their picture. Yes, very much a nativity scene.
I adore snow, so I’ll be French Husband this time. But after playing for a few hours in the cold snow I adore coming in to a warm drink and a fireplace. So I’ll be French Wife as well ๐Ÿ™‚

  51. rockpaperscissors

I hate the cold and I grew up in New Hampshire! Give me a glass of wine by a warm fire along with popcorn/movie. Hugs….

  52. Paula S In New Mexico

Thirty degrees here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Had just a frost of snow on the north end of town overnight. I like just enough snow to see it but basically I’m a Spring/Fall person.
Great scene. Would make a fun xmas card.

  53. Teddee Grace

Well, we have had at least 30 inches of snow overnight and it’s still snowing here in the Rocky Mountains. Without snowshoes a person wouldn’t even be able to get out to camp. I’m afraid to open my front door for fear everything piled in front of the door will fall into the cabin. But I’m like you, I love the quiet that accompanies the snow. A no wind day is a blessing. Those animals are a hoot. They look as if they’d been hypnotized! Teddee

  54. barbara woods

i am a hot choco and look out the window person

  55. I do love snow, my son lives in Whistler, B.C. and usually visit him in the winter. I couldn’t live with it for 6 months of the year though. So I guess I prefer the sun and warmth. I love the pic. I really thought it was a nativity scene at first. So funny to see the peacock amongst the other animals.
