Love Has its Way

I called home, talking to my mom always helps (as did your loving, wisdom filled, insightful comments yesterday.) My mom is practical, organized, generous of heart, spiritual and above all she is loving especially when the going gets tough. If I had to pick a team to surround me for life she would be my first choice. Thankfully, I don't have to pick because I have her in my life already!

While talking to her my little nephew was nearby, and he had something he wanted to say.

Last year when I was home I wanted to take his photo, we were out in my father's shop. I told him (he was three years old at that time) that he had to stand in one place and each time I said, "Now" he had to make a different type of facial expression…. and that smiling wasn't an option.

The above photos are a few of the many photos I took, Warren brillantly posed a different face, one right after another until my finger fall off from snapping his photo. He cracked me up, with his pure boy attitude. He never misses a beat that boy-boy!

Anyway, the other day on the phone he said,

"Coco, I hope your wrist feels better, and I love you."

My heart is still melting, and surely that is the medicine we need to become whole.

  1. So glad you called your mom.
So glad your brocante is opening.
And I really hope that you’re feeling better soon. You’ll figure out how to maneuver with that cast, I just know it.
    love, Kim

Sometimes all anyone needs is to hear their moms’ voice.
I hope you learn to maneuver quickly with your cast. One thing it will do is force you to take is slow and relax a little. Since you have some wonderful people helping you with your online brocante!
In 12 days, I will be learning the same thing as I am having shoulder surgery to repair torn ligaments and a stretched bicep tendon. Sans Bra? Not looking forward to that!

  3. There is nothing better than talking to Mom when we are feeling down.
(My mom called yesterday from Nigeria[they’re spending two months in Africa] and it warmed my heart.)

  4. C, so happy your spirit was lifted, and thrilled to hear you have helpers to get what you wanted accomplished. Wish I could be there to help too! Can’t wait for the peak this afternoon . . .xo

  5. Your mom’s voice, and a sweet nephew to boot! WONDERFUL! 😉

  6. It never stops to amaze me how a few words can make a difference. The loving, supportive, motivating words can make us happy and we can do things that before seemed to us impossible. It is truly a great gift and luck to have people in your life that are generous with such words.

  7. What is that about our mothers’ voice? Even as adults, hearing her voice can make us feel better. Granted we are beyond the mama kiss my booboo stage, but they still can magically reassure us. My mother said to say she is sorry about your accident and hopes you start feeling better very soon. Warren is a charmer!

  8. I love all those little boy faces! I have done the same thing with my son. I didn’t even have to tell him to make faces. Just point the camera and start clicking. Love how that is such a boy thing. I’ve heard other moms say the same thing! I also love how friends kick in and help when we need it most. Yay for you and your brocante shop!

I can’t talk to my mom anymore. a mere shadow exsists now where before was a whole woman…be glad Corey in knowing all you need is there for you to use to help you though all you are experiencing. what a team…what a blessed lady.

Sweet words…from your mother and darling nephew. Yippee…your shop is reopening 🙂

  12. The healing power of little children is pretty darn amazing, isn’t it?!

  13. It’s great that you have an awesome support team. It’s hard I know to let others
serve you, but thats what friends are for. I remember when I had knee surgery in high school and was down for months, that was the hardest thing to accept. My youngest,
Morganne went off to college, and now I’m a true empy nest, so I understand the moods, and I don’t even have the excuse of a wrist surgery! Hang in there, and give yourself time to heal. I can’t wait for your shop to open, it will be a great diversion!
    Speedy recovery!

  14. children are so innocent and absolutely tell the truth. they are honest and very good medicine. my mom is my best friend then my daughter. moms always are there for you. you know that and so do i. that’s why we contact them. i understand the weepy time. it is a cleansing and release and we need that. you will do just fine. Bestest,Denise

  15. I broke my arm one Christmas morning getting out of the shower … imagine, such a cliche. It was a painful Christmas but in some ways the most joy-filled. I … the one who cooks, directs, wraps, arranges, serves and cleans up … had to sit and be still. I chatted for hours with my eight-year-old nephew, and learned so many things about him. Many frustrating days and weeks followed, but when I could make myself be STILL, because I had to, I learned a little about myself. Embrace the stillness in your body as you heal. It will be over before you know it. Wouldn’t it be nice to learn something about yourself in the process? And yeah, it’s a pain in the heinie! Blessings … from one mom whose baby left for university recently to another.

  16. Thanks and gracious love to all your other readings and commenters Corey… I feel like its a secret society of the heart in here sometimes. Dreamt of my Mum. Love x

  17. Woo Hoo – I cannot wait to see what you have for us.

Nothing like the sweetness of children… A few weeks before my visit with you, I was chatting with my four year old nephew on FaceTime when he realized I was alone in the apartment in Florence. He asked if I was scared. I said no. He asked if I was lonely. I said a little bit without him and his brother. A look of concern washed over his face and his voice turned very serious as he said: “Mickey (their nickname for me) stay right there. Don’t move. I’m coming to get you.” He dropped my sister’s iPad (yikes) and ran to her in a panic while commanding, “come on, put your shoes on. We have to go to Italy to get Mickey.” I totally understand what you’re feeling when you say your heart melts…
