Painting from a Blog Reader of Mine: Debra Riley

Chelsea poppies

A few months ago Chelsea, French Husband and I found a poppy field.

I wrote about that red filled happy day here, click here to see it:

A few weeks later a blog reader of Tongue in Cheek asked if she could paint the image of Chelsea in the poppy field. Why ever would I say not to that!

Lovely! There’s nothing quite like having a moment of your life immortalized in a work of art.

  2. What a nice treat to get a painting! Yes, I paint everything. Lately I’ve been painting floors-white on white in the dining room, Harlequin design on the porch, shabby chic sanded-creamy white on the kitchen floor…I’m on a roll:)

  3. Corey, what a surprise to see my little painting posted! I have worked on it a bit more, improved it I think, and will send a new photo. My first attempt at painting poppy fields! Perhaps you or Chelsea would like to have it?

Gorgeous! I think it luxurious to be featured in a painting. The only type of painting I do is utilitarian.

  5. It is beautiful! Wish I was that good an artist. Latest thing I painted was a tray-with chalkboard paint.

  6. Yes, I am an artist. And, you have posted many pictures that I so want to paint. But I have never asked you. I love the poppy field painting.
Corey, you give us a lot of inspiration!

  7. I wish I did. I am bringing my Japanese water colors with me to France to play because I have no talent for painting whatsoever…

  8. no I wish I could paint- lovely beyond belief- so good!

  9. Not only did my only first cousin inherit the family art gene, he got mine as well! However, I’ve had the joy of having an art teacher do water colors based on a few of my photos of the Azores — although he didn’t give me the paintings (but I have photos of the paintings of my photos!).

  10. Lovely! no painting here, but can appreciate other talents.

  11. I wish I could really paint and draw, but I only studied the works of the masters. Recently I bought some oil paints and I’m gonna give it a go again…my favorite artists Matisse and Dufy, my inspiration.

  12. In my dreams only….

  13. Yes, I paint, draw, create, crochet, embroider, sculpt. I am the only one in my family who does and I always feel like a fish out of water. Most of my friends are into sport, outdoors or science and again I feel like a fish out of water.
At the moment I am caring for my sweet husband who will not be with us for much longer and during the quiet moments sitting next to him I don’t know what I would do without my pen and paper to keep me calm when I can’t leave his side.

Yes, on a giant easel in my husband’s office.
Sometimes it’s frosting like impasto, sometimes wet into wet, sometimes it’s a bit of dappling and drips, and lately it’s been dry brushing…all the while becoming an under painting for a new painting.

You did it with quite perfection Debra 🙂 The adaptation is fantastic and mesmerizing!I was never a great artist but I completely understand the bliss and peace derived with paintings! It inspires…

  17. After years of clay work, I have begun painting, too. I also have thought many of your photographs would be lovely to paint. What a source of inspiration and a unique eye!

  18. What a delightful painting Corey and Debra.

  20. Wow that’s so cool… I’ve never been in a painting before 🙂 🙂 Thank you Debra !
I’d feel kinda “bad” having it, knowing how much time & effort you must have put into it. Can I re-use the picture of it though ?

  21. Chelsea, I would love for you to have it! I am going to paint lavender fields with Corey in it and will send both. So glad you like it!

  22. 🙂 thank you thank you thank you !
