Paroles, A Song by Elvis for Today

There must be lights burning brighter somewhereGot to be birds flying higher in a sky more blueIf I can dream of a better landWhere all my brothers walk hand in handTell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come trueOh why

There must be peace and understanding sometimeStrong winds of promise that will blow away the doubt and fearIf I can dream of a warmer sunWhere hope keeps shining on everyoneTell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear
We're lost in a cloudWith too much rainWe're trapped in a worldThat's troubled with painBut as long as a manHas the strength to dreamHe can redeem his soul and fly
Deep in my heart there's a trembling questionStill I am sure that the answer, answer's gonna come somehowOut there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle, yeahAnd while I can think, while I can talkWhile I can stand, while I can walkWhile I can dreamOh, please let my dreamCome trueRight nowLet it come true right nowOh yeah

  1. OK, this got my juices going. Thanks!
I loved having the words to sing along.
And no one to hear me. That was fun.

  2. I was never an Elvis fan, but this song is wonderful. I understand he recorded it just after MLK was assasinated and RFK was killed. He felt very strongly about both men. Perfect for the world we live in today. Thanks for printing the words.

  4. I am a Canadian with my son, American-born DIL and grandson living in Colorado. I weep for the lives snuffed out this weekend because of who they choose to love.

  9. Thanks again, Corey, for a timely reminder. I, too, live in Colorado—Boulder to be exact. We have seen so many acts of senseless violence, Club Q being the latest. Hatred of others poisons our souls and our country. This song, and Elvis’ amazing rendition is a reminder that we all have to keep working, walking, talking, and hoping for a better tomorrow.

Oh my! I remember seeing this concert on TV. How I loved Elvis. My mother tried to guide me toward Pat Boone, but watching this video strengthened the choice my young self made. The song and delivery are extraordinary, and I thank you, Corey, for bringing this back to me. The times were hard, the song was an appeal to sanity. Timely isn’t it.
