Dancing Queen She is

On my latest wander through the secondhand store I spotted a 1950s tulle underskirt. The kind of floaty thing that practically hums with forgotten dances.

It was a perfect fit, thanks to an adjustable elastic band with buttons.

I knew at once: this was destined for Clare Sparkle.

I scooped it up, brought it home, and slipped it over her there in the kitchen. No sooner had the tulle settled than music as ABBA, and the Nutcracker, of course—and suddenly, there she was: twirling and spinning like she’d choreographed joy itself.

Meanwhile, I stirred dinner. Happiness.

This post brought back such a sweet memory for me! My father’s aunt and her family lived in Africa as missionaries the entirety of their adult lives. His cousin Edla would stay with us during her visits home and would collect clothing to bring back with her to Africa. One day, someone donated several boxes of crinolines which Edla decided to leave behind, so she gave them to me and my two sisters. I cannot describe the joy those boxes of crinolines gave to me and my sisters…hours and hours of fun. Thank you for unlocking that core memory!!!

She’s all girl. I can remember starching our crinolines when my sister and I were teens and hanging them on the clothesline to dry. They would be so stiff they would stand up by themselves when dry.

  8. How sweet is that!♥️
