A Faux Wedding in the South of France – Or Was It Real?

Sometimes life hands you an invitation so delightful, so full of sparkle and charm, that even the birds seem to chirp in tune with your footsteps.

That was the case when my daughter’s dear friend Sabrina, whose family owns a sweeping domaine in the south of France, asked if Yann and I would take part in a pretend wedding photoshoot.

But boy oh boy, don’t be fooled by the word “pretend.” This was no casual backyard affair with a white sheet for a veil and a bouquet from the supermarket. No, this was a curated dream spun with, laughter, and the love of a community of creators.

Sabrina had a vision: to showcase what a wedding could be like at their domaine—and not just the look of it, but the feel of it. To capture the magic and warmth of a real celebration.
She gathered a troupe of talented locals—all artisans living within a stone’s throw: a hairstylist, a makeup artist, a videographer, a caterer (oh, the grilled scallops !), a bartender, a stylist, a florist, a wedding planner (of course), a graphic artist, a band, a photographer, and even artisans who made purses, bow ties, clothing, and cufflinks.

Everyone had their role, and every detail was seen to with the devotion of a real wedding. Sabrina even asked if Yann and I would play the bride’s parents. I might’ve said yes too quickly, possibly throwing in a happy tear for good measure. Once my hair was curled and my makeup set, I was in full mother-of-the-bride mode. I gave a toast, tossed petals, and gave a tear when the bride and groom kissed.

The day unfolded like a love letter to Provence: people laughing, playing their parts with a wink and a smile. There were moments where I forgot it wasn’t real.

It was crazy. And fun. And absolutely, wonderfully unforgettable. I loved every minute of the faux wedding photo shoot.

And let me tell you, at the Domaine —Sabrina celebrated it all with impeccable style. Writing herself into the folklore of that place, she took center stage not just as a host, but as a muse. The heartbeat of it all. Her family certainly admired her creation!

I think I’ve found my new calling: professional fake wedding guest. I’ll cry on cue and bring my own hankie.

All in all, it was an afternoon that reminded me how beautiful it is when a community comes together—not just to work, but to create something lovely.
