French Guessing Game

You know how I love a good French guessing game. Well— when I was out and about with the latest group- Nicole and her mother Judi stumbled upon something that had me stumped. Completely.

Of course, Nicole and Judi knew what it was right away. Just like that. Like they’d seen a hundred of them before. Me? I was tilting my head, squinting, guessing wrongly, and shrugging.

So I asked the price.

Cue dramatic gasp.

It wasn’t what I’d call inexpensive. BUT. You know me—I did my homework, looked it up online, and guess what? Turns out, it was actually a really good deal.

Still—what is it?

You’ll never guess. Or maybe you will. Maybe you’re like Judi and Nicole, who are apparently part-antique-bloodhound.

Ready?

It’s a… foot bath.

Yes. A 19th-century foot bath. Back in the day, when even the buckets for your feet were made like fine art. Elegant. Porcelain. Hand-painted. Not plastic. Not made to be tossed when you’re done.

A foot bath! Isn’t that just the most ridiculously wonderful thing?

Nicole and Judi said they were going to use it as a champagne bucket. Which—HELLO—brilliant. Instantly, I wanted one. Even though I don’t drink. Doesn’t matter. I mean, imagine it:

– A gorgeous vase
– A towel holder in the bathroom (you know, all spa-like with rolled-up white towels)
– A centerpiece with wildflowers spilling out, or like a cornucopia
– Or maybe just sitting pretty, being its charming old self

How would you use it?

But mostly, I just love that it had a whole life before I even laid eyes on it.

Super cool, right?
