A Rose by Gabriel

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
— William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet (Act II, Scene II)

Velvet petals, moving as the sea —

waves rising above earth and thorn —

releasing a fragrance that swoons above the stars,

through rib and root, curling around the heart,

resting in the soul’s hollow.

Well, in the garden, sitting at the table, we were drawing—Gabriel held a pencil—and within seconds, without hesitation, without thought, he drew this flower.
Before me, a spirit of Picasso. I don’t know where his path will go. Though what joy, to watch his petals unfold.

  1. I see talent!…….. my daughter Samantha could draw like that & art was her favourite subject at school. Life has sort of got in the way for her drawing but she is still very artistic & going to learn leadlighting. Samantha is 54!

  2. Oh it’s so fun to watch the grandchildren grow and change and reach and sprout towards the heavens in all directions . Each one unique in thoughts and emotions and gifts. How fortunate are we to experience. Not everyone is so blessed, and I know that. ✨✨✨

  4. How wonderful to see things (literally) through the eyes of a child.

Crazy! Before I read your comments, I saw his drawing and said, “Picasso! Wow!” I remember when he was still very young that you wrote about him tearing up when he heard certain music. It will be so interesting to see where adulthood takes him.

  9. His drawing has a beautiful flow, dynamism, and total lack of fear of judgement or self-criticism. The freedom of expression of a well-loved child.
