Pages From a 1940s Sketchbook

At the brocante, one of my very favorite things to find is an old sketchbook. They aren’t easy to come by, and often they carry a rather ambitious price tag. Still, I can’t help myself — I find them delightful. Each page feels like a small window into another era, capturing a fleeting moment from long ago.

There is something so intimate about them, as if you’re standing quietly beside the artist, watching the scene unfold through their eyes.

At the last fair I visited, I was over the moon to discover several sketchbooks by the same artist. Imagine! I gathered them up without hesitation. Here are a few of the paintings from those little books — aren’t they wonderful?
