French Dining Experience…How to Eat a Cookie

Lu cookies

In France they do not eat milk and cookies.

So sad.

In France Lu cookies are the equivalent to Oreos. Not that they taste the same, nor look the same. No, not at all. But, like Americans (kids included) who scrap out the white center of the Oreo cookies before eating the chocolate crust… in France the LU has a similar tradition, the French often snap off the corners of the LU first.

I thought you would like to know that…

I ate a corner.

  1. These ARE my favorite cookies, seriously. Well, good for you just a corner…I do not have that kind of willpower. That buttery cookie would be GONE if in my hand.
Ooh, Corey, I rec’d my pkg. from your shop yesterday. Love the medals. Merci

  2. Are those the ones with the chocolate schoolboy on top?
It was your duty to taste the corner, how else would you know the cookies you are feeding your family aren’t stale?

  3. very funny, but i hope you also ate the rest of it!

  4. Merisi in Vienna

Oh well, only an extra five miles to run! 😉 xxx

  5. Anjanette

    this made me giggle

  6. You know that rule about cookies – the broken ones have no calories as all the calories ooch out of the broken bits. So since you broke off a corner….

  7. We have these same plain biscuits in NZ…they’re called NICE biscuits.

  8. I love these soaked in my cup of tea.

  9. beatnheart

My husband and I usually divide a box of these in two
and finish them all and call it supper..
    gotta be cookies and milk
    ok now I want these

  10. Applause! for self restrain 🙂

  11. My weakness is chocolate, but in July, I started a slow-carb diet combined with exercise and lost 11 lbs. I was feeling encouraged with these results until today. This afternoon my mother asked if I had gained weight????
Of course I turned to chocolate for comfort and now am even more discouraged…

  12. Oh Corey – do you feel like the cookie monster after eating a corner. I wonder if the cookie monster has guilt feelings. Don’t be too hard on yourself enjoy a cookie every now and then.

  13. The key here is they are on a plate…thus mindful eating. I just read in my book that the French put each course on a different plate as opposed to Americans who just heap up one entire plate. So that’s what I’m doing (using a salad plate). So far so good. I’d say a corner is very good. Now if it had been an Oreo, no way could I have done that.

  14. That is so funny! Eating just a corner takes a lot of will power!! Those little cookies are tasty. Reminds me of years ago when I was a “weight watcher” I was able to eat just one M&M and be happy….not anymore, I want the whole bag…so sad that I cannot get my willpower back again. Maybe if I keep reading your blog I will be encouraged and your willpower and resolve will rub off on me. I live in hope…Judy

I love ALL the LU cookies….!! Don’t get me started on Le Petit Ecolier!!!! oh lord I can eat the whole box. And I love that you are given a tiny tiny cookie with your coffee at many cafes. Such a treat. I don’t eat too many cookies at home, but in France? whoa Nellie….!

  16. Kathleen, I was just discussing weight loss at work today. I’ve lost 30 lbs since January and I think because it’s so slow very few people have noticed. We were saying when you get to a “certain” size, people just recognize you as fat and really don’t truly look at you anymore. I think it’s going to take another 20 for people to notice. Despite all that I’m in it to win and won’t be distracted by other people and their comments.
I’m logging onto to Myfitnesspal.com and find the community there very encouraging. Good luck on your journey!

  17. Tongue in Cheek

SO true about the many plates. Dishes are a way of life. Washing them a never ending chore.

  18. I don’t think these cookies would tempt me, but don’t beat yourself up over the edges of the cookies. Here’s another “move” idea for your readers. Anyone who has an iPod or an iPhone can get the app iMapMyRun, which also works for walking or bike riding. Then whenver we walk or run or bike, we can share it. There must be a way to make a specific group. I would definitely sign up to run the Nice half marathon with your group, but I’m afraid I’d be running it over here. Two kids in college leaves little money for flights to Nice… but it could happen.

  19. I had just decided that at 52, these extra pounds that crept up on me the last 2 years had to go. (Chocolate and cookies are my downfall.)How wonderful it was to see the support from so many others in your blog, Corey! Walking 2 miles every morning with girlfriends is my lifeboat. I look forward to getting up and meeting them and laughing so early in the morn. My group is from 4 different continents also so conversation is always interesting! May you have this same support from all of us gathered under your TIC umbrella!

  20. Do the French bite the corner off or break it off?
