Linda’s Spiced Fig Cake

Every time I’ve come home from France over the past 40 years, I’ve walked through my mother’s front door to find one of Linda’s glorious welcome baskets waiting—filled with homemade jams, cakes, cookies, fruit, vegetables, nuts, and countless delicious surprises, all prepared with such generosity and care.

Today you outdid yourself. Lunch was absolutely delicious. By the end, I’d probably eaten enough to feed ten little pigs for ten years. Then you brought out your beautiful fig and spiced cake. Even after feeding those ten little pigs, I could happily have eaten the whole cake myself.

That’s your magic—every single thing you make is irresistible. Thank you for feeding me so generously, but even more, for making me feel so loved.

Now, off to walking around the world to give away those calories!
