The French Classic for Breakfast

Wake up, sleepy eye.
Walk around the corner—
the aroma of baguettes leads the way.
My heavy accent is understood:
one baguette, two croissants.

Each cost $1.10

Pinch off the end of the baguette and eat it.
The croissants—taste buds watering.
Butter,
jam,
or just as is.

  1. Farmboy Husband managed to buy food successfully in Paris without knowing a word of French. He’d just point to what he wanted, then hold up the number of fingers for how many.

He found merchants to be honest brokers, so would just hand them a €20 note (or €50, if it was a large purchase), then trust them to hand him the correct change.

    Voilà! Hotel room picnic!

I probably would eat them plain, as they wouldn’t make it home for the jam and butter. Yummmm!
