Le Ciel on Top of the World

Ciel sits high above Marseille, a rooftop surprise in the middle of the city. At the top of the highest building, the view opens wide—over the rooftops, toward the Old Port, and across to Notre-Dame de la Garde watching over it all.

We went last evening with our friend Philippe, who kindly invited us, and it turned into one of those memorable dinners- We began with a truffle pizza—so generous, so full of flavor, the kind you keep reaching for even when you say you’re full. In truth, everything that came to the table was delicious, simple in the best way.

Dessert was a deconstructed forêt noire, light and rich at once, and just as lovely as everything before it.

Ciel feels easy. A place where you could come for a long lunch in the sun, or early evening with a drink in hand, a few antipasti, watching the light change over the city. If you’re looking for somewhere to sit above it all, to share a meal and take in the view this is it.

Lovely pictures and nice to see you and Yann looking healthy. The pictures are very Mediterranean cuisine. Love the salad on top of the pizza; sorry to say it wouldn’t be very popular here. Of course, the deserts are over the top. The church is beautiful and big. I’m sure it is beautiful inside. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to see you both are well enough to be going out again!

Salad does not belong on top of pizza, however — as it just makes both lukewarm and soggy. Pizza should be hot, and salad cold.

    1. They add it at the end very fresh!

I’ll let you scrape them off my pizza and add them to yours. LOL!

  3. It’s lovely seeing you both looking well. When we visited Marseille years ago, my immediate thought was..’How did the elderly go to church every day in the very early days?

  4. Pizza looks fabulous! I love rocket/arugula on pizza. Are those all truffles? I have to make do here with just truffle oil.
    I can almost smell it….

    1. Yes plenty of truffles!
